In the academic act, the keynote lectura took place:

“Micro/nanoplastics: Do they represent a risk for fertility?” in charge of Professor Elena Ibáñez dof the UAB Cell Biology Unit.

Micro/nanoplastics, small fragments of plastic less than 5 mm in size, are present in increasing quantities in the environment as a result of plastic pollution. They can be ingested inadvertently by organisms, through air, water and food, and recently their presence has been detected in different tissues and organs of the human body. Studies in different animal species, both in vitro and in vivo, have shown a series of harmful effects of exposure to micro/nanoplastics.
Although there are still no data on humans, all these data have raised the concern that micro/nanoplastics may pose risks to human health and have a harmful effect on fertility as well.
