Residency at Dexeus

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproduction of Dexeus Mujer constitutes a Teaching Unit of the Hospital Universitari Dexeus recognized in 1976 by the National Resident Medical Intern Program (MIR) and currently regulated by Royal Decree 127/1984, of January 11, which regulates specialized medical training and obtaining the Medical Specialist degree.

Since then, in our centre we have trained future specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology according to the official program of the speciality (Order SAS / 1350/2009), on a residency basis and with a duration of four years. Each year three new MIR residents are incorporated, so that we permanently have a total of 12 resident physicians who participate and learn from the Department’s healthcare activity.

The training program of the department MIR residents is very complete and includes rotations through the services of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Reproduction. Residents carry out their rotations both in the consultation area and in operating theatres and delivery rooms.

Programming of activities and rotations to be carried out by Obstetrics and Gynaecology residents includes not only the usual theoretical-practical aspects of the speciality, but also an exhaustive preparation for carrying out tasks of medical-biological research, medical biostatistics, etc. To this end, residents attend continuing training courses, collaborate in the Department’s research lines, and participate in the publication of scientific articles on studies carried out during their residency.

The totality of the assistance, training and scientific activity developed in each course is collected punctually in the “Curriculum Book”

The residents have at their disposal in the “Virtual Classroom” all the training material corresponding to the classes, clinical sessions and courses carried out during their years as a resident.

  • Updated curriculum vitae.
  • Complete academic record.
  • Motivation letter explaining the reasons for selecting the speciality and motivation for our Centre.

The application, together with all the documents, must be sent by e-mail to:

* The information for applying for a resident place can also be found in the teaching area of the Hospital Universitari Dexeus website.

The selection of residents is not based solely on the MIR order number and the academic record, but there is an additional selection process consisting of one or more personal interviews with the Evaluation Committee of the candidacies. The Committee is made up of a minimum of 4 of the following Dexeus Mujer positions:

  • Department Director
  • Healthcare Director
  • President of the Teaching Commission
  • Coordinator of the MIR Commission
  • Human Resources Directorate
  • Resident tutor
  • Resident representative

The interviewed candidates are informed of the decision made by the Evaluation Committee and the selected ones are given the corresponding document of conformity. From this moment, the selected candidates can make the choice of place and thus finalize the procedures for admission to the residents’ program of our department.

Before starting the residency, the new Resident Physicians in Obstetrics and Gynaecology are officially received in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproduction of Dexeus Mujer, in an act of reception by the Directorate of the centre.

Each resident will be assigned a tutor who will be in charge of both its monitoring and its periodic and annual evaluations. The tutors will not only supervise the training trajectory of the MIR, but also have the mission of mediating in the possible conflicts that may arise, as well as guiding and advising the MIR during their residence.
